Housing Discrimination - Fair Housing
The Fair Housing Act secures individuals from discrimination when they are renting or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or participating in other housing-related activities.

The Fair Housing Act restricts discrimination in housing because of:
- Race.
- Color.
- National Origin.
- Religion.
- Sex.
- Familial Status.
- Disability.
What Is Prohibited?
In the Sale and Rental of Housing:
It is unlawful discrimination to take any of the following actions due to the fact that of race, color, faith, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin:
- Refuse to lease or offer housing.
- Refuse to work out for housing.

- Set different terms, conditions or opportunities for sale or rental of a dwelling.

- Evict a tenant or a renter's visitor.
- Harass a person.
- Fail or hold-up efficiency of maintenance or repair work.
- Limit advantages, services or centers of a dwelling.
- Discourage the purchase or rental of a house.
- Assign a person to a particular building or community or area of a building or area.
- For earnings, encourage, or try to persuade, house owners to sell their homes by suggesting that individuals of a particular secured attribute are about to move into the neighborhood (blockbusting).
- Refuse to supply or discriminate in the terms or conditions of homeowners insurance coverage since of the race, color, faith, sex, impairment, familial status, or nationwide origin of the owner and/or residents of a residence.

In Mortgage Lending:
It is illegal discrimination to take any of the following actions based upon race, color, religious beliefs, sex, disability, familial status, or national origin:
- Refuse to make a mortgage loan or offer other monetary help for a home.
- Refuse to supply info concerning loans.
- Impose various terms or conditions on a loan, such as different rate of interest, points, or fees.
- Discriminate in appraising a home.

Harassment:

What is Needed for a Problem
To send a housing discrimination complaint these requirements must be satisfied:
- The residential or commercial property must be within the state of Texas.
- The residential or commercial property owner, most of the times, should have more than 3 residential or commercial properties. This does not consist of multi-family dwellings.
